Feature & Follow Friday: Favorite Picture Books

What are some of your favorite picture books – either current ones or ones from your childhood?

I can't remember very many of the picture books that were read to me as a child, but there were a few that stuck with me. Here they are:

Harold and the Purple Crayon
by Crockett Johnson

**This book was read to us a lot in elementary school. That's probably why is stuck with me, even now.

Clifford the Big Red Dog
by Norman Bridwell

**Who doesn't love a big red dog as a kid? I also loved watching the TV show too.

The Cat in the Hat
by Dr. Seuss

**The Cat in the Hat kind of used to scare me as a kid. Don't ask me why, there was just something about it that freaked me out a little.

Feature & Follow Friday: Armchair Travel!

Armchair Travel! Tell us about your favorite book in a setting you’d like to visit (a real place for this question).

So I have never traveled outside of my state of Minnesota, and rarely out of the Twin Cities metro area, so I do all my traveling through books. Most recently I read books 1 & 2 of the Silent series by N.E. Henderson, SILENT NO MORE and SILENT GUILT.

The main setting in the series is Los Angeles, California, but in Silent Guilt, they go to Las Vegas, Nevada, and Shannon, the leading lady mentions a honeymoon in New Zealand. So it'd be cool to go to these place and just see where the books took place in the real world.

What are your non-book guilty pleasures? Like TV shows, food, websites, hobbies, etc.

I wouldn't call this a guilty pleasure, because I don't feel guilty about it, but I love watching all those old TV shows on MeTV and Antenna TV. Below are some of my favorites:

Feature & Follow Friday: Importance of Good Writing

How important is good writing to you? In an ideal world, a book would be beautifully written AND have great character development, plot, etc. But in the real world, which do you prefer: (1) Great characters and plot with lousy writing or (2) Middling character development and plot but gorgeous writing

Good writing is always a plus, so I think it really comes down to whether the story is good or not. No one likes a book that is full of grammatical issues. But I think that if the story is good, the characters like-able then I'm a happy reader. Perfection sometimes is not a good thing, and I think that a story that has some minor flaws is better than one without any. I'd say I'd choose 1.5, a middle-ground between 1 and 2.

I convinced my cousin to read the Twilight books. For a while we were both obsessed with anything Twilight after that, but then it kind of dwindled. (Not for me, but for her).

Have you met a favorite author and have a picture? Share.

I look terrible in this picture, kind of evil looking, it was a bad angle to take a picture from. But this is me and Maggie Stiefvater! This was back in July 2011 when she can to my local library. She's the only author I've ever met in person. I was kind of freaking out, because I have social phobia and I was by myself. I had no idea what I was supposed to do, or say, or act. That's probably another reason I look like I'm evil in this pic (inside I'm freaking out).
