Mean girl, Hannah, outspoken leader of the Divas' Den girls takes center stage in CAMP CHRISTMAS. Fellow camper, Julian, of the Wander Inn boys, also goes to her high school and they've made a pact to not mess with each other. But on a school ski trip everything changes between the two. Caught in a snow storm with some other classmates, it's a fight for survival that leaves everything out in the open.
I was always curious about Hannah. While reading Camp Kiss and Camp Boyfriend, you can see glimpses of a different Hannah, apart from the mean girl. In reality, a lot of "mean girls" use that as a way to protect themselves from getting hurt (although there are some who just enjoy being mean). In CAMP CHRISTMAS we learn more about Hannah's home life that's hinted at in Camp Boyfriend. Then there is Julian. He has had feelings for Hannah for a very long time, but sometimes her mean girl attitude puts him off. This snow storm changes everything for both of them, for the better.
I also liked how this book alternated between Hannah and Julian, so that we get to see both sides of the story. And I really want to know what Julian's tattoo says!
Julian: He is the one who was is always wearing a cape and wielding a wand or sword around camp. As a member of the Wander Inn cabin at Camp Juniper Point, he was someone that Hannah a Divas' Den girl would not socialize with, at camp or at school. He has had feelings for Hannah ever since he helped her over come her stage fright in junior high. He's an Eagle Scout, so survival in the outdoors is something that he's very good at, and it saves their lives during the snow storm. He sees through Hannah's mean girl exterior, to who she really is on the inside.
Hannah: She really became a mean girl when her parents split apart when she was in junior high. She reigns supreme at camp with the Divas' Den girls and at school with her two best friends, Bella and Missy. But deep down she's just a girl trying to protect herself from getting hurt more than she already is. When she's paired up with Julian on their ski trip, she's upset at first, but as they work together and survive together, her feelings quickly change, and she begins to really see Julian for who he is.
I really loved seeing Hannah's hardened heart melt as she spends more time with Julian. You guys really need to read this novella to get the full impact of the change Julian makes within Hannah. And to close this review, I'll just say that that cape Julian is always wearing? It really comes in handy on that cold mountain. ;)

Hannah never meant to be a mean girl – at Camp Juniper Point or at her high school. It just sort of happened during one painful year when her parents split and her life fell apart. Who knew being mad at the world would catapult her to popularity? But since changing the status quo would make her some serious enemies, she’s prepared to ride out her time until graduation. That is, until a camp friend calls her on the act during their school ski trip. Will Julian out her to her friends? Or will the guy she once accused of being King of the Nerds make her wish she was a whole lot more like him?
